The Mission

The Issue

Period poverty, defined as the lack of access to menstrual products, education, hygiene facilities, and waste management, affects 500 million people worldwide. This can lead to major mental and physical health problems. Unfortunately, there is little awareness of the topic due to taboos surrounding the discussion of menstruation. Moreover, single-use menstrual products, such as pads and tampons, are a major contributor to landfills. Nearly 20 billion sanitary products are sent to landfills every year in North America alone, and a single disposable pad takes an estimated 500 to 800 years to biodegrade.

Our Solution

Here at AmeyaCare, we sell environmentally friendly, reusable menstruation underwear.  Through the use of reusable products, we lower the financial burden associated with purchasing menstrual hygiene items in a healthy, sustainable manner. Plus, for every two packs of underwear sold, we donate one to a local women’s shelter.

We’ve partnered with the Upadesh Vatika Foundation in India to manufacture our underwear. Their mission is to employ disenfranchised tribal women and to educate them on proper menstrual care, as many of them do not have access to feminine hygiene products.  Thus, the goal of AmeyaCare is to not only target a major gap in gynecological health, but also to create a way for women to support each other.
