Championing Menstrual Hygiene: A Man’s Perspective

As a man, I openly admit that when I first began my journey with Ameyacare, my understanding of menstruation and menstrual hygiene was disappointingly limited. I had no idea that this profound journey would result in a revelation, one that would change the way I think and shed light on the tremendous importance of menstruation hygiene on a global scale. In this blog, I invite you to join me as I share the enlightening lessons I’ve learnt about menstrual hygiene and its far-reaching impact on the world.

Seeing Things in a New Light

Back in the past, I didn’t think much about periods. It just wasn’t something guys talked about . But Ameyacare changed that. I realized that periods are much more than just a topic to avoid. It’s about breaking down the old ways of thinking, making sure girls have what they need. By listening to stories from girls, I understood why we should openly talk about periods and support them.

How can men play a crucial role in menstrual hygiene education?

  1. Talking About It: Men can talk openly about menstruation, making it less embarrassing and more normal.
  2. Support at Home: As fathers, brothers, and husbands, men can be there for emotional support and make sure women and girls have what they need.
  3. Helping in Schools: Men can suggest that schools teach about menstrual hygiene. This helps everyone understand why it’s important.
  4. Clearing Up Myths: Men can share correct information to stop wrong ideas about periods.
  5. Making Things Accessible: Men can help women and girls get sanitary products and clean places to manage menstruation.
  6. Being Understanding: When men know what women go through during menstruation, they can be kind and patient.
  7. Being Good Examples: Men who learn and talk about menstrual hygiene show younger guys that it’s normal and important.
  8. Leading the Way: Men in charge of communities or schools can make sure everyone learns about menstrual hygiene.
  9. Health Matters: Men’s support in menstrual hygiene keeps women and girls healthy and prevents problems.
  10. Fair for All: Men’s involvement makes sure that everyone is treated the same and no one feels left out.

In short, when men take part in teaching about menstrual hygiene, it helps create a caring and equal place where women and girls can handle their periods confidently and with respect.
